Hey Creeker parents, if you're on the lookout for toddler-approved adventures in Cave Creek, Arizona (like I always am), you're in for a treat! This charming town has a lineup of activities to keep your little ones exploring From play spaces to wildlife wonders and outdoor escapades, here are some of my favorite things to do with my 2 year old around town!
Get Moving at The Little Gym of Cave Creek
I'll admit that we've only ever done one class at the Little Gym but I was blown away. A 45 minute structured class that let my son run around in a "no-free" zone was perfect. They have a wonderful program and teachers who take you through various activities to keep your kids engaged and having fun. It's a great place to burn some energy on a warm summer day or cool winter morning.
Exploring Reptiles at Phoenix Herpetological Society
This amazing animal experience is located just off Scottsdale Rd. and Dynamite and is a great one for animal enthusiasts! Let your little one dive into the world of slithering snakes and hopping frogs (they even have a crocodile!). Your toddlers will be wide-eyed at the fascinating creatures, and who knows, you might learn a thing or two about our scaly friends too! Zoom Down the Gila Monster Slide at Carefree Gardens
Did you know there's a playground right in the middle of Carefree? Head to Carefree Gardens and meet the Gila Monster Slide – the coolest lizard-shaped slide in town! Surrounded by lush gardens, it's a toddler's paradise for exploration, giggles, and endless sliding adventures. I take my son here a few times a week to hang out on the playground, watch people walking their dogs, and explore the Carefree Gardens to learn about all of the different desert plants!
Splash Pad Shenanigans at the Sundial in Carefree
While you're visiting the Gila Monster slide, don't miss the scorpion splash pad that's a 2 minute walk away! This is the perfect spot to cool off and it's MUCH quieter than the Anthem and Scottsdale Quarter options (and closer!)
Storytime and More at Desert Foothills Library
We love, love, love the Desert Foothills Library. The best part? It isn't just about books; it's a hub of kiddie programs. From interactive storytime that transports tots to magical lands to educational workshops that spark curiosity, it's a place where learning and laughter collide. The librarians do an amazing job of structuring different activities for various age ranges. They also have a sort-of "kid's lounge" with toys, and various activities that can be used any time. Be sure to check their monthly calendar for a list of events!
Nature Strolls at Spur Cross Conservation Area
When I was a kid growing up in the Arizona desert, my grandparents used to take us on all kinds of nature walks. They would give us a bag that we could fill with rocks, leaves, even snake skins (I know, we were rogue!). We would then take them home and research all about them. Really any street or trail can work for this but Spur Cross offers a unique trail separated from the cars and hustle and bustle. Let the desert become their playground!
Time Travel at Cave Creek Museum
Discover some of Cave Creek's story with your little historians at the Cave Creek Museum. Interactive exhibits make history come alive, and who knows, you might find yourself learning a few things about the town's past alongside your toddler.
